Not only is it a great tool for hosting one-shot samples or building sample-based instrument patches, itРІР‚в„ўs a fantastic loop host as well. The other is to use Simpler, which has become arguably the most important device in Live. There are two ways to deal with this: one is to use another controller instead РІР‚вЂњ anything with a MIDI keyboard or drum pads will work, although of course there are significant trade-offs in other areas.

In Session mode, thereРІР‚в„ўs no way for PushРІР‚в„ўs pads to send velocity, so you canРІР‚в„ўt use them to change how loud or quiet a clip plays upon launch. You can even change a clipРІР‚в„ўs launch mode from Push, which is great for mid-gig changes of direction. If the clip is set to Toggle, itРІР‚в„ўll simply stop when you tap it again, which is generally a much smoother behaviour when youРІР‚в„ўre using hardware with Live clips. LiveРІР‚в„ўs default launch mode is Trigger mode, which is fine most of the time, but it does require you to tap elsewhere or use the Stop button when you want the clip to stop, but LiveРІР‚в„ўs transport to continue. In the walkthrough, we see how launching clips from the Push pads will reflect launch mode settings youРІР‚в„ўve made. If you ever want to play loops in Live without starting the transport, you can do it from the Looper and Simpler devices. If Live is already running, the pad will flash and wait until the start of the next bar before playback begins. If Live isnРІР‚в„ўt already running, launching a clip will start the transport. Get familiar with whatРІР‚в„ўs in the example set by tapping any of the clips to start them playing.

The colours should be reasonably close to what you see on the computer screen. In Session mode, Push does a good job of reflecting the contents of your Live setРІР‚в„ўs Session View and youРІР‚в„ўll get clip positions and colours clearly laid out, ready to launch with a single tap.
